This lovely little book is correctly described on its cover as 'a culinary history of feasts, fairs and festivals with a tempting collection of traditional and contemporary recipes'.

I was given this book for Christmas and I still can't put it down.

It contains some vegetarian recipes.

The meat-based recipes take up the majority of the book but it provides a wealth of information on where and how dishes originated.

As I see vegetarian eating as an evolutionary process, creating changes in our minds (alongside possible ones in our teeth and digestive tract), it is incredibly interesting to see where certain famous meals began. A worthy starting point for moving them, meat-free into the future.

Approximately 300 pages of recipes and historical information with some black and white illustrations. This is not a glamorous coffee table book but a very enjoyable and usable aid to the serious cook.
