The title of this book suits it perfectly. Named after Gennaro Contaldo's restaurant, it could also refer to his style of cooking and his outlook on life.
Part cookbook, part autobiography, it is a vibrant celebration of the importance of food to the Italian culture.
There are about 100 recipes here, with a proportion of them containing meat so it is important to pick and choose or adapt them to suit. Unfortunately, he writes about his love of shooting which will put some people off. But whilst not condoning shooting in any way, I do believe, though, that a chef who shoots only what he eats has, at least, made an informed choice about his place in the food chain. Don't overlook this but, if you use the book as I do, you will discover some fabulous sauces, desserts and bread recipes.
