They obviously spell 'veggies' with only one 'v' in Australia and you have to be aware that you will be using unusual measures and ingredients if you try out this book. Put that aside (and there is a conversion chart and glossary at the back) and you will have access to hundreds of simple and appealing vegetarian recipes. Be careful, though as meat and fish do occur now and then in the ingredients of some, although this is quite unusual.

Not all the recipes are ground-breaking but the novice cook needs to know how to make a 'Greek Salad' as much as (or possibly more than) a 'Chickpea and Pumpkin Curry'.

Each double page contains a colour photograph to show you what you're aiming towards, plus cooking times and nutritional information.

If you were only able to own one cookery book this should not be the one but it will make a useful contribution to a larger food library.
